Energy Saving Potentials of Private Electricity Consumption by Feedback and Consulting (12th IAEE European Energy Conference 1/3)
Vom 09.-12. September 2012 findet die 12th IAEE European Energy Conference "Energy challenge and environmental sustainability" in Venedig statt. Die FfE GmbH wird auf dieser Konferenz mit drei Beiträgen vertreten sein. Die erste Veröffentlichung behandelt folgendes Thema:
Energy Saving Potentials of Private Electricity Consumption by Feedback and Consulting
Presenter(s): Anna Gruber
Co-Author(s): Serafin von Roon, Marco Schwentzek, Johannes Frei and Martin Schönach
The use of smart meters could offer several advantages for private consumers as well as for electric supply companies. For example, the awareness of consumers regarding their energy consumption can be increased by providing related information with a high time resolution. By applying continuous reporting and comparing the historical and current energy consumption, the major sources for energy consumption and reduction possibilities can be identified. From the perspective of the energy supply companies, smart meters have a positive effect on load distribution and tariff arrangement. According to the EU directive 2009/72/EC, at least 80 % of the households have to be equipped with smart meters until 2020, if the introduction of smart meters is evaluated positively.
The pilot project of the Vorarlberger Kraftwerke AG is accompanied academically by the Forschungsgesellschaft für Energiewirtschaft (Research Association for Energy Economics). Within this project about 500 households were equipped with smart meters. The consumption figures of the participating households were monitored and their energy savings were checked. The energy savings can be attributed to the use of both smart meters and advisory measures. For example some of the test subjects receive a monthly invoice. Others receive an additional information package or energy consulting from their energy provider. Several research projects have investigated smart meters and the resulting energy savings. Though, the impacts of different feedback tools on practical savings by smart meters have not been investigated in detail.
